Vasectomy? Most common question.

The misconception is that since a vasectomy is performed near the testicles, that it will affect testosterone.

Will a vasectomy affect my sex life?

A vasectomy only removes sperm from the ejaculate. It has no effect on serum testosterone.

So, men will have to come up with another “objection” for taking the “plunge” that is the decision to consent to scheduling the procedure.

Vasectomy-One opening or two?

“We make a point to…Cater to Cowards.”

There are two vas deferens…one for each testicle. Some urologists prefer to make two openings on each side of the scrotum to do a vasectomy. No big deal, the openings are small…but they make two of them.

If you had a choice, would you want to be cut once or twice?

Dr. McHugh uses one no scalpel opening in the upper middle of the scrotum the size of a grain of rice. There are no sutures required. We feel one opening is better, quicker, heals sooner, and contributes to decreasing the time to perform the vasectomy.

Dr. McHugh does hundreds of vasectomies a year, over a thousand in his career and makes a point to do everything possible in making your vasectomy a pleasant experience.

Give us a call-we accept most all insurances, offer an “absolutely pain free option” with conscious sedation at minimal additional cost and have an all inclusive fair price for self pay patients.

Post vasectomy job number 1!

It ain’t over…until we say it’s over!

John McHugh M.D.

Once the vasectomy procedure is over and you are well on your way to full recovery, the next important thing to remember is , “No unprotected sex until there is proof there are no residual sperm in the ejaculate.”

Many patients feel that the time from the vasectomy is the factor that influences sterility, however it is the number of ejaculations. It usually requires 20-30 ejaculations to achieve sterility (i.e. no sperm).

You can use in certain cases the test kit available from spermcheck.com, however at Northeast Georgia Urological Associates we personally evaluate each post vasectomy specimen under a microscope at no additional charge.

How your anticipated urologist plans to handle the evaluation of your specimen, the cost if any, how it is done, may be one of the factors that should determine who performs your vasectomy.

We’ve done thousands, we offer conscious sedation (absolutely painless), accept most all insurances and offer fair all inclusive pricing for self pay patients.

Give us a call-we will take good care of you.

Thank you!

Vasectomy-“Absolutely painless” option.

“We cater to cowards”

Northeast Georgia Urological Associates Vasectomy Motto

No needle no scalpel vasectomies can be done in an office setting with pre-medication by mouth for anxiety and pain. The tricky part in this setting is using lidocaine to numb the skin and vas deferens. Whether this is delivered with a small needle or the no needle Madajet injector, there is discomfort. I tell patients it is like the dentist having to numb the tooth, numbing it is the hard part. This is true for having a vasectomy.

So what is “absolutely painless” vasectomy. Well…in a surgery center the patient can be given very light and safe anesthesia for the fifteen minutes required for the vasectomy. The patient will not have to have the “numbing” process inherent to having a vasectomy.

Is this overkill? Well…it depends. I am a very bad dental patient and if I had the option of light anesthesia for a crown for instance, I’d jump at the chance. So it depends on the patient, some are more afraid of the anesthesia than being wake and aware of any discomfort.

What we offer is a choice to the patient having a vasectomy at a comparable price as that in office. You have the choice because our ASC is practice owned and there are no facility fees associated with the vasectomy making it feasible to the majority of insurance and the patient with self pay.

Ask us about it if you plan to schedule a vasectomy.

Schedule 24/7 using the form below. We will call back within one business day. Consultations can be in the office or by telehealth video.

Same tube but different operation!

A common question is “Is the vasectomy procedure like a vasectomy reversal?”

Well, a vasectomy takes about 15 minutes and done through a small “grain of rice” opening.

A reversal is done using an operating microscope and takes about 2 hours to perform usually through two small openings. Due to the time of the procedure there is more swelling and bruising.

So, in fact they are not similar but both are done through the scrotum and on the same structure. It is a fair question and it is important that the patient consenting to a reversal know the difference. It is a question I answer with each reversal phone consultation.
