Medtronic InterStim Neuromodulator for Overactive Bladder and Interstitial Cystitis.
Northeast Georgia Urological Associates is one of Georgia’s busiest practices in utilizing the Medtronic InterStim device for sacral neuromodulation. Christie Woodruff is a Certified Medtronic InterStim Programmer and has attended several national meetings on its use in Overactive Bladder and Interstitial Cystitis. Dr. McHugh has implanted over a hundred of the devices in our Ambulatory Surgery Center. We are pleased to offer both the experience of our staff and the convenience of our on campus surgery center to our patients.
Medtronic offers an innovative therapy for overactive bladder and urinary retention in patients who have failed or could not tolerate more conservative treatments. Sacral Neuromodulation provides bladder control therapy that addresses the nerve component of bladder control problems.
- FDA–approved in 1997 for urge incontinence, and in 1999 for urgency-frequency and urinary retention
- Minimally invasive evaluation and implant procedure
- Proven efficacy – up to 5 years – in patients for whom more conventional therapy has been unsatisfactory
- In studies comparing patients who received Sacral Neuromodulation with patients who delayed implant and continued standard management, those with Sacral Neuromodulation experienced significant improvements in quality of life
In properly selected patients, Sacral Neuromodulation can dramatically reduce or eliminate symptoms of overactive bladder and urinary retention.
If you have symptoms of Overactive Bladder (OAB) or Interstitial Cystitis (IC) and have not improved with conservative measures and medication, please contact us. You may be a candidate for the InterStim Device implantation.
