No needle no scalpel vasectomies can be done in an office setting with pre-medication by mouth for anxiety and pain. The tricky part in this setting is using lidocaine to numb the skin and vas deferens. Whether this is delivered with a small needle or the no needle Madajet injector, there is discomfort. I tell patients it is like the dentist having to numb the tooth, numbing it is the hard part. This is true for having a vasectomy.
So what is “absolutely painless” vasectomy. Well…in a surgery center the patient can be given very light and safe anesthesia for the fifteen minutes required for the vasectomy. The patient will not have to have the “numbing” process inherent to having a vasectomy.
Is this overkill? Well…it depends. I am a very bad dental patient and if I had the option of light anesthesia for a crown for instance, I’d jump at the chance. So it depends on the patient, some are more afraid of the anesthesia than being wake and aware of any discomfort.
What we offer is a choice to the patient having a vasectomy at a comparable price as that in office. You have the choice because our ASC is practice owned and there are no facility fees associated with the vasectomy making it feasible to the majority of insurance and the patient with self pay.
